Both companies run their own crawlers and neither publishes numbers you can verify independently. In practice, Ahrefs finds more live links for most sites and shows new links sooner. Trust Flow scores a site from 0 to 100 by how close it sits to a set of hand-picked trusted seed sites. A link from a site two hops from a university or a major newspaper scores high. Citation Flow is its partner metric, which counts link volume without judging quality. A big gap between the two, high Citation Flow and low Trust Flow, is a classic spam signal.
Domain Rating scores the strength of a site's backlink profile from 0 to 100 based on the number and strength of linking domains. It does not judge trust directly, so a site with many links from other strong but spammy sites can score well. That is why link buyers often check both. A domain with DR 50 and Trust Flow 8 is usually built on paid or network links.
